Dia de los Muertos Cultural Experience
A fellow colleague and I proposed Dia de los Muertos as a high cultural holiday to be celebrated at the firm. This project meant a lot to us since both of us are Mexicans, living in the US at the time. Which made celebrating our traditions dependent on us making room for them. This proposal was submitted on the last day of 2019 and was meant to be an in person experience hosted at Sasaki’s Incubator space.
After being selected and getting excited to plan for November 2020, Covid hit and by October we were not closer to coming out of lockdown. So, my colleague and I opted for designing a completely virtual experience in collaboration with a Sasaki’s Strategies member.
Throughout the week leading up to November 2nd, we informed through all-office emails about the holiday’s history, meaning and symbols. We also shared the recipe for Pan de Muerto and a tutorial to DIY Altar de Muertos. When November 2nd arrived we hosted a zoom meeting to make a toast to the loved ones in the next life and welcomed everyone to our virtual cemetery.
Take a look!
